Tritiya, ruled by Gauri (Parvati), is a Jaya ('victorious') tithi. It is one of the most auspicious tithis for women's vrats and for purchases meant to last.

Significance of Tritiya

Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya is Akshaya Tritiya, a day so auspicious that no separate muhurta is needed; anything begun is said to be 'akshaya', never diminishing.

Hartalika Teej, Hariyali Teej and Kajari Teej, important fasts for married women, all fall on Tritiya.

Chaitra Shukla Tritiya is Gangaur in Rajasthan, the culmination of an 18-day worship of Gauri.
